I’ve just read this document and it is very ambiguous as to whether it wants to keep Area Chairman and even states;
“Some areas will need a full number of Area Chairman, others may not. Some areas may choose for a completely different structure, such as a regional board. We have not discussed fully how this will work, but in principle the regional NME member and branches will decide the AC support structure needed.”
On the face of it the only elected position will be the National Chairman (one member, one vote). I bet that after another consultation the NME and steering committee will decide that it is too costly and unreliable to hold elections for Regional Co-Ordinators and Area Chairman and simply appoint them. For an NME member to tell me that Michael Lunn will vet and research each Regional Co-Ordinator candidate before they get to stand for election or get appointed by him is simply ludicrous.
Any member of Conservative Future should be able to stand for election, that is how democracy works.
It’s a sad day for Conservative Future and it is unbelievable how the majority of the NME voted for these reforms. I presume that Richard Jackson will be the one to carry these reforms through next year as he abstained in the vote but created the reform package with Michael Rock.
I have been informed by various people that the document that has been put up on the CF blog is not the one that the NME voted on so can I suggest that they put the ‘real’ one up please and not the watered down version to the membership.
Michael Rock is making an online voting system for next years election- whilst I agree that it saves money and is less time consuming it is laughable that the Chairman who wants to see his reforms implemented next year is making the online system- who will be the returning officer, Michael Rock as well?!
Jackson didn't 'abstain', as I understand it he has no vote as part of the deal that saw him co-opted.
