The Breathtaking Arrogance of Chuka Umunna

Labour's flamboyant candidate in Streatham spent the last 18 months briefing journalists that he would be "
British Obama
" and "the next but one leader of the Labour Party." It seems someone had a gentle word to tell Chuka Umunna, a man with an incredibly high opinion of himself and for little discernible reason, to pack it in though. Hardly surprising given the chap hasn't even been elected.

His incredible arrogance didn't stop there though. Sometimes it is having a go at identikit polticos (Umunna is a lawyer and PPC. Cough.) Or how about being known to
declare
that “It would be spectacularly awful if I didn’t get elected for Streatham”. Umunna was also controversally involved in the attempts to smear Daniel Hannan as a racist in September. The abortive attack by the likes of the Mirror and New Statesman was slammed, yet it didn't stop our man Chuka wading in:
Seems he should be more careful what he says online to his disciples in the land of the tweeting.
This question
isn't the first, and TB doubts it will be the last that our esteemed saviour makes an arse out of himself:
"At Boris' QTime at Brixton Academy and wondering, again, how this man is our Mayor, though think those booing him shld stop"
Ohh stop booing! How very kind of you oh great one, but err come again? "wondering, again, how this man is our Mayor?" How about because 1,168,738 Londoners voted for him? Such off the cuff, casual disregard for the electorate gives a real glimpse into the mindset of this ruthlessly ambitious and self aggrandising individual. While many may wish to declare Umunna the saviour of the Labour Party, he is exactly the wrong sort of candidate Parliament needs. No wonder some in Streatham
are concerned
, and want a candidate who is;
"comprehensively concentrating on Streatham’s Fundamental Needs – rather than simply using Downtrodden Streathamites as a Formidable Launchpad for Higher Political Office (elsewhere)."
Fair to say Umunna is not your guy for that.

He's a solicitor, not a barrister.

Eh? Just says 'lawyer', doesn't it.

I hear he has a reputation for laziness. But then I heard that from a Lib Dem.

Mind you, I won't even go to Streatham these days. Labour broke it.

He's a twat, not a solicitor.

I love that Umannah compares himself to Obama in two ways: 1) he's a leftist and 2) he's black.

I thought we lived in a meritocracy where people were judged on their talent and ability. Who's the racist here, Chuka?

I have just read this and done a little bit of research on the man. I am a North London Tory and I know a few of our number that are well acquainted with Chuka. I'm sorry, I don't think you are helping our cause with this rather outlandish post. Read this: https://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2009/aug/26/britain-new-obama. Disagree with Ummuna's politics and beliefs but this personal stuff will hardly increase what I hope will be a decent majority

Right on, TB, I'v met the guy several times, and he's a talentless waste of space.

He's only getting this kind of hype because he's black. It's an insidious kind of inverse racism, where the racists are the Labour activists saying "Oh, didn't he do well for a black man, he managed to string a whole sentence together." In reality Chukka is a retard, and I find the type of prejudice that says "everything he does is extraordinary" to be based on the vilest and most patronising kind of racism. It's an elaborate mental masturbation technique that allows Labour hacks to feel so pleased at the thought that they may have voted for someone without any ability, but at least they voted for the black man who was so patently retarded so they can't be called racists, and everyone who even stands against Chukka must be a racist.

Of course, this sort of hype won't last long. If he gets elected (and he may well not), expect there to be a backlash. David Lammy was touted as "Britain's first black Prime Minister in the making" when first elected, but that balloon has burst ever since...well, ever since he opened his mouth in public, really. Lammy's hype was also based on his being a black man who looked good in a suit for a publicity photo, and not on his ability, with people being sorely disappointed to listen to the vain, pointless, spoon-fed rants of this troughing simpleton.

Umunna IS OBSESSED with his background, but he neglects to mention that there is already a mixed-race MP. Half-Ghanaian, Half-English.

His name is Adam Afriyie and he's a CONSERVATIVE!

He has already been elected, but he doesn't go around calling himself Britain's Obama.

What you say may be true, but you are stretching the bounds of fairness with a few of your quotes.
Clearly, the "spectacularly awful" quote was referring to how he would feel, not the impact on Streatham. Completely out of context. Equally, the Obama ones are a bit tenuous, it more seems that the interviewers put it to him, and he says "nice, but a bit excessive". Pretty sure I'd be flattered if that was said to me.
You may well be right, but out-of-context distortions are out of order.

Why have I wasted my time reading this vitriolic tosh. Instantly forgettable. Chukka is widely liked in Streatham and admired for his commitment to the area. If you have something to say about his politics - fine.lets hear it

Chukka can be seen in some of the BBC footage with Grell giving her support.

Umunna is merely masquerading as a leftie, he's a public schoolboy educated at St Dunstan's. I understand while at the school he said he wanted to be the first black Conservative MP.
