Postman Prat

A while back TB said he was praying that CCHQ were war-gaming how to defeat Alan Johnson. Well the good news is that
ConservativeHome
are tonight reporting some of that strategy is starting to come together. The bad news is that it might actually have to be used.

While TB can't wait to see Brown dragged kicking and screaming from Number 10 for the good of the country, the Tories will face a much tougher battle against the lovable postie.

Unless of course that little skeleton in the cupboard caused some real damage?

In the meantime there is some cheer from Nick Boles: "However personally appealing Alan Johnson may be, he cannot at this late stage repair the deep fissures in the Labour Party or offer the British people real change from the failed approach of the last decade."

Bring it on.

I wish the Tories would stop talking up Johnson. He is a likeable guy because he doesn't offend anyone - hardly the pedigree to be an effective leader.

If he succeeds in becomong PM, however short lived, half his job will have been done fo him because of the timidity of the Tories.

I really don't see what is so fearsome about Johnson - it isn't as if he has the reputation (however undeserved) Brown had for economic "competence"

The problems go way beyond one man, they are the responsibility of the Labour government, the electorate will not forget that.

You've watched the 'Downfall' spoofs; Postman Pratt = Doenitz

I agree. Drawing constant attention to him is a coup for Labour. Don't understand why the Tories fear him. They should be relishing the opportunity.

Labour are finished, no matter who takes over.

I say this to all of the Conservatives - where's your confidence?

Brown is bad for Britain.

The Conservatives should be trying to get this freak out of office, regardless of how difficult it'd be to oppose Johnson in a general election.

Have the Conservatives not learned that we want integrity in politics?

The Conservatives should up their game and give people what they really want - an unequivocal stance on the EU; if the Treaty is ratified and the referendum result is No, repeal it. Simple.

They'd find a lot more voter support if they did that than they're curently garnering.
