If Mandelson is indeed considering bringing Charlie back, he had better dry him out first. Whelan's taste for the 'sauce' is legendary and the last thing Labour need is a p*ssed media spokesman who has a history of going 'off message' when inebriated just when they are fighting for their survival.
Bringing the former manic depressive, ex-alcoholic Campbell back was enough of a risk - this smacks of sheer desperation...
