I got a perdition. Brown has made a deal to stay in power intill the election. He will say just before he calls the election he will stand down so some one else (Alan Johnson) will stand. Not to win but to stop a Tory landslide and to keep the party intact post election.

Brown is FAR too stubborn to give up now I'd have thought - though I admit that the timing of these things is quite fishy and I too noticed his "answer" at PMQs today.

My money is still on Brown either leading Labour into the election. I don't think Labour have it in them to "stab him in the back" (or the front for that matter) and I don't think he will resign of his own accord...the last two are very much outside bets...

BUT I would never say never as far as this government goes...anything could happen!

Indeed TB, something is incredibly fishy about this whole affair. You are correct, 6 weeks was a very long holiday to go unreported which insiders tell me relates to a compassionate news blackout.

The random stories about Brown's health may well be a way of getting the problem out in the open, so voters feel sorry for him when he steps down at Xmas - right in time for the new leader to take the reigns.
