An actual watergate...

Iain Dale
has a wonderful scoop this morning about the fact the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Norwich By-Election April Pond has a rather lovely house... surrounded by a defensive trough full of stagnant water.
Yes one of the few things that really came to symbolise the expenses scandal was the ol' moat cleaning. No wonder Pond was Clegg's third choice for candidate. Was it really very wise of the dead duckers to choose a woman, who not only isn't very local, but during a by-election that will be dominated by the scandal is hardly a clean break from it?

Looking a little closer.. wait... what is that? Is that... is that... a duck house floating there?

I don't really get it. Is there an allegation of impropriety or prior or proposed expense fiddling?

If not I don't get what you're on about- will you devote space next time an MP or prospective MP buys a packet of Hobnobs?

Probably best to wait until they've clearly messed up before criticising, otherwise one just comes across as shrill and really quite ridiculous.

So you mean that the Lib Dem candidate a a successful and enterprising woman who has been able to pay for the cost of keeping her own moat, unlike the hopeless Douglas Hogg, who can only manage to do so at the taxpayer's expense?

hehehe anyone who knows douglas hogg will know he can easily afford his moat. the greedy hoon just thought he could get away with it.

I think TB is implying that because she has a moat she'll be 100% more likely than somebody without a moat to claim on expenses for cleaning it.

TB isn't very subtle.

Thousands of old houses in East Anglia have moats. They were a medieval status symbol for those who couldn't run to a deer park.

Hogg's moat is rubbish anyway. It's just a ditch with folie de grandeur.
