How to stop the Lib Dems in Henley...?

...hold the by-election during the Regatta!

It would be perfect- pimms and politics... I can think of hundreds of people who wouldn't mind doing a spot of campaigning in the morning before lazing on a riverbank for the rest of the day!

well that's definitely one way of canvassing!

Nice idea, except Henley is but one tiny corner of the constituency....

Anyway, the Libs are a shadow of what they were here in South Oxfordshire a few years back. We slaughtered them in the council elections in May 2007.

One way to beat the LibDems. I understand their candidate has been parachuted in instead of a local councillor.
So here is how the Tories can get ahead,, hold an open primary of the prospective Tory candidates, that way all the electors get a chance to vote for the Tory candidate, instead of having candidates (like the Libdem) foisted on them.
The open primary could take around 2 weeks, ending up with a question time debate chaired by eg. Andrew Neil, then carry out the vote using Text, internet etc.
Its true the other parties might cause mischief however I think once the Tory is chosen, then the local electors are more likely to vote for him/her in an election.
Utilising open primaries and modern voting systems it would show the Conservatives are a modern 21st century party, committed to local democracy.

Also any good Tory would be far too gone at Henley to be able to put a cross in the right box...
